We guarantee that all levels will leave with invaluable knowledge to level up their existing game Joey Ansah has had over 20 years of professional movie making experience with all aspects of pre-production, production and post-production. Working both in front of & behind the camera as an Actor, Writer, Director and fight choreographer. Attendees will be given a deep insight into his unique perspective and philosophy on action design. It is Joey’s belief that all fight scenes are ultimately: - Conceived by the Script writer. - Developed by the Action choreographer + Stunt team - Nuanced by the Director and Actors and Cinematographer - Injected life and personality by the Actors and Stunt performers and camera operators - Enhanced, curated and packaged by the Editor and Director - Signature secret sauce added in post-production by Composer and Sound design, colour grade and VFX work. A deep understanding of all of these roles and steps is necessary to truly deliver visionary action. Attendees will be given a crash course in storytelling- The action has to serve the motivations of the characters performing it! This seminar will examine concepts such as: - The ‘Rhythm of the Fight’: understanding tempo, cadence, flow and broken rhythm. - Fight trends, cliché, cool, brutal realism vs hyperreal cool. - Injecting emotional content: Tension, build up, anxiety, rage and revelation. - Shooting style philosophy: Hong Kong vs Hollywood - Action direction 101: Dos & Don’t’s, crossing the line - Fight performing: distancing and intention. Using the space. As a highlight, you will be treated to never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from Street Fighter.
